남도국악원은 수려한 산세의 여귀산을 등지고 남해바다를 마주보고 있는 천혜의 자연경관 속에 위치한다. 이러한 입지적 특징을 최대한 살리고, 자연 속에서 국악의 멋과 흥을 구현하는 풍류의 전당을 조성하고자 하였다. 남해바다를 바라 볼 수 있도록 수공간과 연계한 마당이 지형차이에 따라 건물과 유기적으로 연결되며, 야외음악당(달빛마당), 소리마당(별빛마당)을 풍류의 장으로 조성하였다.

The center is located against the backdrop of the beautiful Yeogwisan mountain and faces the south sea. We aimed to maintain such unique locational characteristics and create a palace of cultural indulgence that realizes the beauty and excitement of traditional Korean music. The yard that is linked to the water space to view the south sea and is organically connected to the building according to different landforms, and the outdoor hall (Moonlight Hall) and music hall (Starlight Hall) were built as a place for music and enjoyment.
